This year I will…

Thanks for the comments on yesterday’s post!!

Last night I started reading “This Year I will….” by M.J. Ryan. I actually picked up the book because of other things that I’m trying to change but it is so revelant to weight loss that I’m going to use her advice on this too. One thing I picked up is to practice visualizing myself at my healthy weight. I have always pictured myself as fat even when I was a normal weight… she says that because that is how I saw myself, that is how I ended up this way! Another thing is instead of using scare-tactics to motivate myself I should use pleasant things as motivation… instead of “I will die if I don’t stop smoking” think “I will be able to breath so much easier when I stop smoking”

I think this is one key to success.

Eating healthy for cheap??????

Anybody have any good tips on dieting for cheap??

It seems like anything that is labeled ”fat free” is at least $1 more than it’s fatty counterpart. McDonalds has the $1 menu and Ramen noodles are what 15 cents a package? But all those things are “costly to your health.”

It seems like it’s just costing us too much to eat healthy and really we’re struggling financially. Any advice?? Even if you’re wrote about this before, would love a link to your blog or site that recommends anything!! Thanks in advance!!

Pick myself back up…

After a long long time of just doing whatever I feel like and eating whatever I feel like I think it’s time for  a change. I’m due for a good kick in the pants. Nick (my husband) is trying to go back into the military so he also needs to shed a few pounds. Hopefully together we can do this.

So we went on vacation in the middle of June - and everyone knows vacations are no good for eating healthy!! I had lots of wine and lots of Coke and lots of food!! I came back from vacation and shocked when I stepped on the scale and 151 - my highest weight ever. Grr!!!

My goal for today - no coke!! I have been eating pretty decent lately because of all the fresh summer produce (my veggie garden doing excellent!) and we have been grilling a lot since it’s summer! However, I think I’ve been drinking almost a 2 liter of Coke a day.. which is baaad!! So for today no coke. I’ve got a nice tall glass of water in front of me and so far so good!

Ugh

Yesterday was just not good. I had zero energy so I ended up taking a loooong nap on the couch for most of the day. When I woke up I had a huge appetite… one that nothing could satisfy! Luckily, we barely have anything in the house to eat so I what I did munch on wasn’t too bad… just the quantity of it!

TODAY is off to a good start. I had my breakfast and I think I’m about to bike to the library (about a mile one way) to return some books.

Update: I did bike to the library! WOo for me!! Those hills are KILLER!!! I think I need a new bike :) I bought mine for $20 at the thrift store… it is a man’s bike and it is too big for me (I’m short). I love the idea of riding my bike instead of driving… love the exercise and not using gas. :)

Today…

I’m a late sleeper so my day is just getting started.

First, Happy Mother’s Day to everyone!!

I started my day off a little late… normally I don’t walk on Sundays but I had to do a favor for one of my clients so today I got up. Didn’t do a full walk just 20 minutes. I had no energy.

So now I am home and I had my breakfast - one glass of milk with carnation instant breakfast (sugar free). I don’t know anyone who has lost weight doing this or if it is even that healthy of an option… but I really love drinking them! I am a cereal eater all the way!! I loooove cold cereal but most just have WAY too much sugar. I don’t really like hot breakfast so oatmeal or anything else is out. I love instant breakfast and it tastes like chocolate milk - yummmy! I couldn’t find them at the normal store I shop at so I was looking at some alternatives… I read the box on Slimfast that says a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, two servings of fruits/veggies and a “sensible dinner” The slimfast was packed with sugar and other things… I think my instant breakfast is way better for me.

So I had my breakfast and now I have a little more energy. Got big plans for today!!

  • walk my own dogs
  • work on the landscape in my front yard
  • clean my house

Mostly sounds like yucky chores but hopefully I can get my husband involved and we can tackle this day together!!

Starting over…

I’ve kept various notes and such while trying to document my weight loss progress.. I’ve never really had the support to keep going.. so I have all these different things where I’ve lost 5lbs here and there but it’s never really stuck and so of course I gain it back (and then some!!) So now I am hoping to meet friends online who can encourage me to stick with it this time… I want some accountability here.

A little background story: I was diagnosed about a year ago with PCOS. It was such a relief in terms of “so this is why I can’t lose weight.” but also a stressor knowing that my body is working against me. I complained to my doctors that even though I exercise daily and diet I still don’t lose.. or I will bounce between 140 - 145 just depending… so finally my doctor put me on Metformin which is something that diabetics use. PCOSers have problems with insulin resistance and there is an alarming rate of PCOSers that are obese. I don’t want to be one of those!

So here I go again. And this time I hope I find lots of support here! (and if you leave comments here and support me I’ll totally reciprocate the love!)

PS I hope my “before” photos don’t offend anyone. I wanted to give an accurate representation of what I am starting with!

Here are a few measurements (in inches) to go along with those:
